Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod – whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques – I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes – we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!
Ok here comes another crazy question!…what is your trick (I’m sure you got one) for getting your foot booties off after fishing?
Thank you so much Dan just went out and got all the gear you recommended and a 5 weight rod I am just starting. Haven even got my line wet. Wish me luck in Yakima!
The gear can just keep growing. I’ve now got sinking polyleaders in my bag following your recommendation. I’m not complaining though, they worked 👍.
What? no squirmy wormy?
Dan, excellent video as always ! As long as you’re including lip balm and sunscreen, I emphatically recommend bringing a small quantity of TP in a sealed sandwich bag. Leaves just don’t cut it for me ! 😂🙃 Looking forward to seeing your leader and tippet selection video, as I am reminded watching your selection here that there is more than one way to skin the cat…
Don’t forget a Ziploc sandwich bag with some toilet paper in it. It doesn’t take up much space but man, it’s nice to have when you need it. 🙂 And great video BTW. Your transitions to and from your b-roll looks great!
And dont tie your boots to tight if your in waders
I love my streemer. If I’m unsure what to cast I aways throw a streemer. I got a 14" small mouth bass yesterday in about 2½ feet of water
Thanks😊
As a complete beginner you didn’t say what a tipet or tapered leader actually was.
or just a 6 pack lol
What is the dry shake for?
Nice job – I think anyone new to the sport will find this helpful. Thanks Dan!
And make sure those sunglasses are polarized so you can spot those trophy fish!
I’m new to fly fishing and I don’t have any of this I only have a rod and some flys because it is so expensive for everything
I’m just learning to fly fish. Unfortunately I have balance problems (from cancer treatment) which can make it hard for me to go into a stream. Anyone have any suggestions on what I need to fish from the shore or just a little ways into the water? I’ve tried wearing waders but they’re just a little to heavy for me. Maybe someone knows of a lighter brand?
Thanks! You are like having a private guide to fish with every day. I really appreciate all you do to help. Fish On !!
Just started ive got a pole and 2 Flys lol but been catching plenty
very helpful thanks 👍
Still looking for that winter layering video you promised me. Especially the difference between primary layer, mid layer, outer layer, and which products and material are best for each. Links to Amazon would be a bonus. Thanks!
🤣🤣 I definitely forgot the sunscreen yesterday on the satsop, I wasn’t expecting 75 degrees and lots of sun
Dan, love the videos! I’ve just started out and your videos has been helpful and inspiring. I live in Seattle and wondering if you ever hold any events or know of events coming up? Thanks!
Somehow I just don’t picture you curling up like a pill bug and tugging on those suckers!…lol
Great video
And if you can follow this wisdom you can catch 98% of the fish for about 2% of the cost. All the additional junk might be fun but, in the end, it rarely matters that much.
No flask?
Dayum…I remember when u only had 2k subs…hardest working utuber out there…be safe. Fish on.
I Need a water proof vape case lol
I saw a guide smoking a cigar at the east fork of the french broad river few weeks ago, wasnt you was it? Cheers
Thank you for reminding me that i have to start cleaning and arranging all my freshwater and saltwater fly boxes. I’ve been putting it of way too long! Our season starts up in April and we all know that before you know it April is here. Thanks Dan
You don’t need all that damn tippet. A couple of extra leaders is good. If you’re tying and re-tying and chewing through your leader in one outing…
A: You’re not fishing, you’re spending all your time sitting on the bank tying knots and…
B: Maybe fly fishing isn’t for you.
Ummmmm so I got a fly rod and reel like 1 hour ago and this is super confusing lol
Do you have a video on where everything goes? Like the net etc?
I liked the humming bird part 🙂
Assuming I already have a rod and reel in a beginners vid?
But yeah, tell me I need pain killers……
Are you in northern Washington? I think I know a few spots I have seen in your videos. Just found you today
Great video. Thank you. I used to fly fish years ago, getting ready for Montanna fly fishing trip. Now I know exactly what to purchase and not waist a lot of money. Thanks again!
